Cortlandt Manor
Cortlandt Manor NY– COUNTRY LIVING 1 HOUR FROM NYC
Located in the northwestern corner of Westchester County, Cortlandt Manor gets its rural character and country feel from the wetland areas, the Hudson River, the New York City Watershed lands, and numerous wooded hills and steep slopes. Comprised of several hamlets, Montrose, Crugers, Verplanck and two villages, Croton-on-Hudson and Buchanan, the town is conveniently located near major highways (Route 9, Bear Mountain Extensions) and the MTA hub Croton-Harmon. Cortlandt has been a long-time popular destination for both city commuters and those looking to move away from the hustle and bustle of NYC and lower Westchester to more quiet, scenic, residential neighborhoods.
To Do
There are many recreational activities in Cortlandt. The Cortlandt Waterfront Park located in Verplanck offers a riverfront pedestrian trail, a public boat launch, a pier for fishing and crabbing, a huge lawn for outdoor movie nights and live music, a waterfront restaurant and ample parking. Another popular park is Blue Mountain Reservation which is comprised of miles of biking/hiking trails with terrific views. Aside from the parks/trails there is one golf course in the town, and a roller hockey rink. A big attraction in Cortlandt Manor is the main shopping area of the town – the Cortlandt Town Center, located on Route 6. The center is comprised of over 40 stores and has been recently renovated and expanded in 2019. Anchor stores include the new Shoprite, Verizon and HomeSense and older favorites like Walmart, Bed Bath Beyond, Home Depot, Best Buy, Office Max, Marshalls and PetSmart just to name a few. There are also plenty of eateries and Regal UA movie theatre on the strip.
Real Estate
In the last 20 years many new subdivisions have been built on the hilly terrain with many residential choices from luxury townhouses – Toll Brothers at Hollowbrook Mews (Northern Cortlandt bordering Hollow Brook Golf Club and Toll Brothers at Valeria (Southern Cortlandt) to 4-5BR colonials in Cortlandt Chase and Cortlandt Ridge (built in early 2000’s) to name a few. There are also plenty starter homes, 2- and 3-bedroom Capes and ranches within the community.
The Village of Croton-on-Hudson is a picturesque river front town rich in history, culture and small-town ambience. Home to the historic Van Cortlandt Manor, this small village of approximately 8000 people continues to evolve as a suburban village attracting both visitors and residents alike. Croton-on-Hudson real estate continues to be the most expensive in New York and among the most expensive in the US. The median sale price for homes in the village are a bit higher than the neighboring towns (mid 700k / 2020) due to exclusive waterfront and water view homes as well as the draw to this very popular village. And the village is a commuter’s haven with the nearby highways and MTA hub that offers a super-express run (42 min.) to NYC.
